Smart Building Analyst

Job Title: Smart Building Analyst
Reports To: Senior Director, Technology
Department: Information Systems & Technology

Position Summary

We are looking for a Smart Building Analyst to join our team, based at our Head Office location. The Smart Building Analyst of Operational Technology (OT) will liaison between the Information Technology department, the development, operations, and construction departments. The candidate will work to oversee various OT projects, ensure OT networks and devices are set up according to SmartCentres’ standards and security protocols.

Responsibilities:

▪ Develop and implement OT policies supporting the operation of property networks and systems.
▪ Create and implement plans for the maintenance and upgrades for process control systems.
▪ Proactively identifying and resolving issues to support and improve efficiency of the facilities process networks.
▪ Work in conjunction with Information Systems and other operational teams to drive continuous improvement efforts related to process control systems.
▪ Support for new product and technology introductions to the environment, interfacing with the Information Systems team and well as Senior Management of SmartCentres.
▪ Design and development of operations protocols, processing equipment installations and upgrades related to process control systems.
▪ Conduct assessments and audits on process networks.
▪ Conduct research on hardware and software products to develop recommendations of various smart building technologies for use in existing and future properties.
▪ Search for, and read through data sheets, user guides, manuals, and other technical documents to understand how unfamiliar systems work.
▪ Work with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve operational/property system issues.
▪ Documenting client requirements to develop technology solutions to business challenges.
▪ Create systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to stakeholder and solutions vendors.
▪ Where necessary, liaise with equipment vendors during installations, acquisition negotiations, and issues.
▪ Other duties as assigned.

Academic/Professional Requirements:

▪ A minimum of 3+ years’ experience working on Decision Control Systems (DCS) or Process Control systems
▪ A minimum of 2+ years’ experience working within an IoT framework
▪ A minimum of 2+ years of IT work experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

▪ The successful candidate must be highly organized, pay close attention to detail, is results driven, is flexible and is overall a problem solver.
▪ Knowledgeable and skilled with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
▪ Possess and utilize a working knowledge of engineering tools and software and ability to read and understand process flow diagrams, line drawings, schematics, and architectural drawings.
▪ The candidate must be a critical, creative thinker.
▪ Review and evaluate vendor information for instrumentation and electrical components and determine suitability for specific project applications.
▪ Awareness of Cyber security issues and protecting the networks from unwanted intrusion
▪ An aptitude for technology – ideally in IT and communications or control systems.
▪ Understanding of IT, networking, and communications concepts (TCP/IP, switches, routers, servers, LTE, etc.).
▪ Willingness to learn about building systems including HVAC, BAS, energy metering, and lighting control.
▪ Ability to troubleshoot problems and isolate issues.
▪ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
