Engineering Associate

Job Title: Engineering Associate
Reports To: Senior Director, Engineering
Department: Development Engineering

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering, you will participate in the delivery of technical environmental approvals, compliance and environmental management services throughout land development, construction, and asset management.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the development, implementation and auditing of the Environmental Management System;
• Provide technical assistance regarding environmental matters, particularly with respect to environmental risk, contamination, excess soil management, contamination claims, spill clean-up and environmental compliance throughout the organization, and communicate policies, procedures and applicable law;
• Manage environmental consultants including issuing RFPs, establishing budgets, coordinating field investigations and reporting;
• Review environmental/engineering documents and reports such as Phase I, II and III ESAs, geotechnical and hydrogeological reports, environmental monitoring reports, risk assessments, designated substance surveys, natural heritage studies; provide summary and recommended next steps;
• Support various development approvals by working with internal project team members and multi-disciplined consultant teams;
• Prepare, submit and manage environmental approvals and permitting such as RSCs, EASR, PTTW, IAQ, Discharge Agreements, ECAs;
• Assist with the planning, delivery, and monitoring of various ESG initiatives;
• Maintain environmental and engineering inventories, databases and trackers;
• Assist with the corporate environmental insurance policies;
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and mitigate/manage environmental risks;
• Review cost estimates and tender documents;
• Support ongoing tool and process development;
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

• +3 years of environmental engineering or environmental science experience;
• Knowledge of the Ontario Environmental Protection Act and other related environmental legislation including O. Reg. 153/04 Records of Site Condition, O. Reg. 406/19 On-Site and Excess Soil Management; O. Reg. 347 Waste Management; O. Reg. 490/09 Designated Substances.
• Ability to develop and implement systems and process;
• Highly organized and detailed oriented;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and must possess the ability to effectively communicate;
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
• Proficient in MS Office, Bluebeam Revu; AutoCAD, an asset;
• Ability to create an environment that can foster professionalism, technical excellence, accuracy and timeliness;
• Ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously, having regard for project requirements and deadlines.
